Gŵyl Fach y Fro, organized by Menter Iaith Bro Morgannwg, will return to Barry Island this year on Saturday 21st May after two years of postponing the festival. Gŵyl Fach y Fro is pleased to announce the bands that will be taking part this year. Performers include MR, Huw Chiswell, Morgan Elwy, Lily Beau, Bwncath and Hana Lili. The festival will include two stages, the Main Stage and the Glanfa Gwynfor, a stage for schools and community groups. The festival will also include activities and workshops for children, craft stalls and food and drink. Heulyn Rees, Chief Executive of Menter Iaith Bro Morgannwg said;

“Menter Bro Morgannwg is extremely excited to be hosting the festival again this year at Barry seafront. We look forward to welcoming some of the best bands in Wales.

Gŵyl Fach y Fro is a very important part of the Vale of Glamorgan’s calendar of Welsh language events and we are very grateful for the support of the Welsh Government, Vale of Glamorgan Council, National Lottery and Arts Council of Wales.”

The festival has also received additional funding this year from the Arts Council of Wales to fund new arts project. This project focuses on three elements, Dance, Art and Music, and will work with local freelance artists and schools to create pieces of work that can be performed and exhibited as part of the festival.

Musician Mei Gwynedd will be working with a group of young people from Ysgol Bro Morgannwg to create a band. The artist, Rhys Padarn is going to work with Vale Primary Schools to create a mural, and Dance company ‘DanceFit Wales’ will be working with year 7-9 pupils at Ysgol Bro Morgannwg on a dance performance. The workshops will then lead to a special performance at the Festival to showcase the work created.
