The National Eisteddfod is the largest cultural festival in Europe. For a whole week in August it celebrates Welsh language music, poetry, literature, the arts and learning Welsh. The Eisteddfod has a long history with old traditions and it has developed to be a modern festival for everybody.

You can find out more about its history – from the first in 1176 up to today on the website of the National Library and on Wicipedia.

And the National Eisteddfod itself has loads of information about its history (the first modern Eisteddfod), about Eisteddfodau that have been and those that are yet to come.
