Millennium Volunteers & The Welsh Baccalaureate

Local committee

There are several local groups across Wales, working with the local Menter Iaith to develop and support the Welsh language in their town, village or valley, using the ‘Gweithredu’n Lleol’ method.

What will you be doing?

  • Attend meetings

  • Recognise local needs

  • Help create a plan to answer requirements e.g. planning events

The “Gweithredu’n Lleol” scheme has been created for communities with a large amount of Welsh speakers to give as many people the opportunity to speak Welsh an to keep numbers of Welsh speakers high.

Help in an event

Festivals, parades, gigs & more – the Mentrau Iaith organise all sorts of Welsh community events throughout the year. We always need more hands on deck during these events.

Including:

  • Stewarding events

  • Selling tickets

  • Stage management

  • Help organizing

Be a board member

The Mentrau Iaith are run by volunteers on boards and committees. Some Mentrau have sub-committees for our work with specific audiences or projects.

By being on the board you would be:

  • Attending quarterly meetings

  • Attending annual meetings

  • Setting budgets and work plans

  • Creating a working plans and contributing ideas to the work of the menter

May be appointed to a specific role such as chairperson or treasurer

Opportunity to learn and develop through other board members

Clubs

The Mentrau Iaith run various clubs – from walking to Wikipedia. Do you enjoy teaching a skill or leading a group? Enjoy doing a bit of organizing? The Mentrau Iaith could do with your help today.   • Helping to market the club

  • Helping with club administration

Helping new learners

Tens of adults start learning Welsh every year and we want to help them. If you’re learning Welsh yourself, or just want a chance to use what you know, helping us to run and lead Welsh conversation sessions will help you and others to enjoy using Welsh every day.

How can you help?

  • Join conversation groups occasionally

  • speaking and listening

  • Supporting campaigns such as Shwmae Sumae day
