This year, Menter Caerdydd and Menter Iaith Bro Morgannwg’s school holiday play scheme, ‘Bwrlwm’ will be held at the Urdd Eisteddfod in Cardiff Bay during May 26 to June 1, 2019.

The scheme offers free activities for primary school children during school holidays, through the medium of Welsh. With the Urdd Eisteddfod returning to the capital city, and offering free entry for the first time this year, the Menter saw an opportunity to work with the Urdd to hold Bwrlwm as part of the evet.

Manon Rees O’Brien, Chief Officer of Menter Caerdydd and Menter Bro Morgannwg, says;

“It’s great to be able to combine both activities and run our play scheme as part of this year’s eisteddfod. We hope that the experience will be a special one for the children who attend the schemes in every part of the two counties and take part in the excitement and fun of the Urdd Eisteddfod.”

Sian Lewis, Chief Executive of Urdd Gobaith Cymru says;

“As I used to work at Menter Caerdydd I am very aware of the hard work that is being done to ensure lively activities through the medium of Welsh for the children and young people of the area. As a parent, I am also very aware of the value of quality and reliable childcare during the school holidays. It is great, therefore, to be able to welcome the Bwrlwm scheme to the Urdd Eisteddfod and I am sure that it will be a great experience for the children who benefit from the scheme and a valuable opportunity to raise awareness of the Mentrau’s work in general.”

Menter Caerdydd and Menter Bro Morgannwg will also be holding a stall in conjunction with Mentrau Iaith Cymru. The stand will raise visitors’ awareness of the work of the local Mentrau and other Mentrau Iaith all over Wales to increase and strengthen the Welsh language in their communities. There will be an opportunity for children, young people and families to answer the question ‘What is a Menter Iaith?’ by doing a variety of activities on the stall.
