52 schools across Wales will receive funding to promote their provision of Welsh language education.
The Cymraeg i Bawb project, led by Mentrau Iaith Cymru, has announced that funding has been awarded to 52 projects in schools across Wales to promote and develop their Welsh-medium provision.
Meilyr Jones, Cymraeg i Bawb’s National Manager, says that receiving 100 applications has been ‘hugely encouraging and reflects the strong interest and commitment from schools to strengthen access to Welsh medium education in their communities and support the ambition of reaching one million Welsh speakers by 2050’. The successful projects will be implemented between February and July 2026.
Examples of projects that will be presented include:
- Development of an interactive website co-ordinated by Ysgol Cwm Rhymni to promote the Welsh-medium primary schools in the catchment area
- An innovative, joint, digital marketing campaign by Ysgol Berllan Deg and Ysgol Penygroes
- Community fairs in rural Ceredigion to raise awareness of Welsh-medium education.
The main purpose of the funding is to ensure that equitable access to Welsh-medium education is available to all, supporting pupils to become truly bilingual and giving families the knowledge and confidence to make informed choices. The successful projects with trial creative and innovative ways of reaching out to local communities.
This is one of the first actions of the Cymraeg i Bawb project, as it expands its work of promoting Welsh language education – a project originally established in south-east Wales – to the rest of the country. Successful entries were received from schools from across Wales, highlighting the national demand and potential.
The project also fully recognises the key partnership with the Welsh Government, which enables Mentrau Iaith Cymru to provide support for schools through the Cymraeg i Bawb project. Cymraeg i Bawb encourages schools and communities to take advantage of the support available and celebrates this important step as an exciting milestone in the development of Welsh language education across Wales.
The Cabinet Secretary for Finance and Welsh Language, Mark Drakeford, said: “These projects will help strengthen access to Welsh-medium education for everyone. This Welsh Government support will expand the good work of Cymraeg i Bawb across Wales and is an important step on our journey towards a million Welsh speakers by 2050.”
