Here is an exciting new project from Mentrau Iaith Cymru, funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. The aim of the project, named ‘Gwreiddiau Gwyllt’, which means ‘Wild Roots’, is to create and modify resources that deal with Welsh names and terms in nature, and to increase the use of these Welsh terms by providing people of all ages and backgrounds with opportunities to engage, take part in activities and protect their natural heritage.

The work, or resources created will be available far beyond the end of this project, and there for anyone to use. Both new and existing resources will be used and shared in order to teach and present the names and terms for wild animals, flowers and trees in out natural habitats. We aim to raise awareness and protect place names and particularly the names of species by learning about history, legends and folk stories with the many groups who will be part of this project. This will, in time, promote a sense of pride in the individuals for their local area and culture.

The ability to speak Welsh is essential for this post
