For children and families attending, there will also a special performance from the Mewn Cymeriad theatre group in the museum’s Waterfront Workshop, followed by a series of interactive workshops from Familia de la Noche and Theatr na nÓg. In the museum’s foyer, artist Rhys Padarn will be offering a drop-in workshop enabling attendees to create some special Gŵyl Tawe artwork in his iconic Orielodl style.
The fun doesn’t stop there, with the festival’s live music programme kicking off at 12:30 on the Creative Wales stage in the museum garden with a set from the young, exciting Swansea musician, Manon. Despite only starting to write her own songs in the last year, she has already built a keen following with regular gigs around various Swansea venues. In the build-up to the festival, Manon has released her debut single ‘Amryliw’, in addition to a video recorded through the Lŵp x PYST Music Video Fund.
The live music alternates between the garden and the Taliesin Stage in the museum’s Ocean Room throughout the afternoon, including a special guest appearance on the Creative Wales stage from Adwaith who return to Gŵyl Tawe following the release of their highly anticipated third album, ‘Solas’.
The Taliesin Stage is headlined by Pys Melyn following a busy 2024 for the band which included recording a BBC 6 Music session for Riley & Coe, supporting Gruff Rhys on the ‘Sadness Sets Me Free’ tour, and performing alongside Spiritualized at Focus Wales.
Gruff Rhys and his band will then take to the Creative Wales stage to close the festival with their first Swansea show since 2019. The full musical line-up across both stages also includes Crys, EADYTH, Kizzy Crawford, Los Blancos, Mari Mathias, Mali Hâf, and Penne Orenne. The museum’s foyer will also host further stalls and activities from Menter Iaith Abertawe’s partners throughout the day, while between 15:00-18:00 in the Warehouse Gallery there will be an opportunity to catch Menter Iaith Abertawe’s AM Cymru sessions recorded with artists playing the festival in different venues across Swansea on the big screen. These sessions include Los Blancos live from the Grand Theatre, Mali Hâf live from Swansea Arena, and HMS Morris live from the Kardomah Café.
