Egg Clapping

Anglesey will celebrate one of its most charming traditions before Easter as the children visit kind villagers at Carreglefn, Brynsiencyn, Llynfaes, Talwrn and Llannerchymedd to ‘clap for eggs’. Traditionally, to fill the family pantry for the Easter celebrations, children collected hen eggs from generous farmers. The customary Welsh rhyme is still chanted, accompanied by noisy wooden clappers, but rather than hen’s eggs, today’s children prefer to collect chocolate eggs.
