Mentrau Iaith Cymru, the national organisation that supports the network of 23 Menter Iaith, is pleased to announce that every Menter Iaith has registered to use the new .cymru domain.

As a group of organisations that promote the use of Welsh through a variety of projects and activities, we feel that registering to use .cymru shows a clear commitment of our support to encourage greater use of the Welsh Language and Welsh content online.

Meirion Davies, National Chair of Mentrau Iaith Cymru said: “Over the years, communicating, finding information and digital marketing have become far more important.

Our work to promote and support the Welsh language in our communities is constantly changing and although working at a grass roots level throughout Wales is vital it’s also equally important to encourage greater use of the Welsh language online. We hope, therefore, that by transferring to .cymru that this will be a celebration of our Welsh identity and offer a means to develop and strengthen Welsh speaking communities in every part of the World.”

Alongside transferring to .cymru, some Mentrau will also be developing new websites, following suite the recent development of the mentrauiaith.cymru website.

Also, as part of a greater campaign to promote the use of Welsh online, led by the .cymru .wales group, Mentrau Iaith Cymru will be hosting a public discussion on how best to promote the use of Welsh online on Friday the 7th of August, 14:00-15:00 on their stall during the National Eisteddfod. The session, chaired by Dylan Iorwerth, will offer an opportunity to discuss and question the potential that new technologies create in regards to expanding the use of Welsh online.
