Magi Ann has reached the Education Category Short List of the 2017 National Lottery Awards.

Gill Stephen, Chief Officer at Menter Iaith Fflint a Wrecsam says winning the prestigious National Lottery Award and having their work showcased on national television would be an honour:

“I’m excited that we have reached the finals of The National Lottery Awards, out of 1,300 nominations – this is excellent news, and recognition of the importance of this work.”

She added: “These apps are important resources for children learning to read in Welsh, be they first language Welsh speakers, or Welsh learners. We are astounded by the response that has been since we launched the first Magi Ann app back in November 2014. We have now had over 92,000 downloads, which undeniably proves the great need for such resources to help families and schools across Wales. There is an obvious demand for the apps in Wales, but we also know of families that are benefiting from using the apps across the world, from Japan to Patagonia, from America to Sweden!”

As a result of the extraordinary popularity of the resource, the Mentrau Iaith across Wales have adopted Magi Ann as their super star to promote the use of Welsh at home and in schools.

Marged Rhys, speaking on behalf of Mentrau Iaith Cymru said: “Magi Ann has made several appearances in festivals and events from Holyhead to Flint and from Abergavenny to Bridgend! Contact your local Menter Iaith for more information on Magi Ann events in your area. It’s easy to vote, so we’re hoping people support us, to help us gain national recognition for this important and innovative work. What a fantastic way of promoting the Welsh language and the benefits of bilingualism across Britain. Good luck Magi Ann!”

There are 6 Magi Ann Apps available FOR FREE to help children learn to read in Welsh, with over 50 simple stories and fun games.

They are fantastic resources for families and schools that help children learn to read in a fun and interactive way. The apps are also great for adults who don’t speak Welsh or who are learning, as they can tap individual words to hear how to pronounce them and to see a translation.
