Richard Owen, from Menter Iaith Môn’s Bocsŵn project, is on a mission to use music for positive experiences for the youthful and mature residents on Anglesey.

On the 9th of April the residents of Hafan Cefni, Llangefni, together with participants Age Well ended a course of ukulele lessons with the recording of ‘Calon Lân’. Feedback from the participants identified the benefits of the music sessions as a means to socialize, learn new skills, and enjoy themselves.

Welsh learner, John Harris, who attended the recording session said:

“I joined because there’s a nice atmosphere, we’re always learning something new, and we meet other people. I really enjoyed learning Calon Lân”.

Another attendee, Margaret Peters, said:

“We socialize and have fun and Richard is brilliant with us – it’s a good way to learn new skills”.

Richard Owen explained:

“Bocsŵn provides opportunities for people of all ages to enjoy music-making. We hold sessions in schools and in the community with a range of social groups. It’s been particularly rewarding to see the group meeting at Hafan Cefni gain confidence and new skills on the ukuleles and I’ve enjoyed getting to know the individuals and their great sense of fun.”
